FARMERS' UNION

REMITS PASSED. WELLINGTON. July 17

At the Dominion conference of the Union yesterday remits carried included the following;— "That this conference views with alarm the growing practice of Governments, when passing new legislation, of virtually conferring the powers of a dictator upon a Minister. Citizens are thus deprived of the right of appeal through the Supreme Court." (Nelson). ,

"That this conference desires to impress upon the Government the necessity for taking the farmers of the Dominion into its confidence to the fullest extent upon all matters concerning, the production, treatment, consumption, and shipment of nil primary produce. It is felt that by this means only will farmers be enabled to assist the war effort to the fullest possible extent, because, owing to the nature of their calling, their plans for production must be made' far in advance." (South Canterbury.) "That, as a matter of extreme urgency, the Government decide and make known to the industries its policy in connection with the payment for and disposal of primary products during the coming season." (Otago.)
