MANAWATU HUNT MEETING. FINAL GALLOPS. (By “Spectator.”) Horses with engagements at the Manawatu Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday wore given their final preparatory gallojKS this morning. A heavy frost left the ground very hard on top, but it began to thaw at about 9 o’clock and the going became slower. Although the slceplcchaso course was open it was not used. There were, however, some interesting trials over the hurdles. With the sun shining brightly on the frosty ground, the light- was not good when Great Qucx (Brady) went out. lie has taken a dislike to the lirst of the schooling hurdles and was not asked to jump it, I Over four others he gave an excellent display. He is very well at present. Colincamps (Anderson) and Jeanne (Miss I’’. White) were always well clear of Cloverlea King (Bowden) when they I went once round the hurdles. The la;t- ---• named had a start of some lengths, but jumped slowly and could not hold it. The pegs on the course proper were a long way out for the galloping. Accompanied by Tau-Uru (Ewan), Myurior. (Waddell) ran fivo lurlongs in 1.10 and they could have done better. Raccaway (Broughton) was not doing his best when running five furlongs in 1.13 3-5. Renaseor (Waddell) and Lacan (Stewart) went fast early, but were eased up over tho final stages of a six-furlong trial to register 1.27. Miss Leighon (Bowden) and Maurier (Broughton) jumped away at the mile post and ran the last seven furlongs in 1.38 —a useful gallop. ivotua (Redstone) hit out freely when running five furlongs in 1.13 35. She was followed by Cheetah (Stewart), a good track worker, over the same ground in 1.10 4-5. L. Knapp’s pair.
