"The State Department occasionally has received reports purported to bo German offers, but there was never anything official in their character," >-ai'd Mr Sumner Welles to tve I'ress regarding Mr La Guardia's warning of peace manoeuvres. Air Stephen Early told the Press that no official peace feelers from Hitler had reached the Government.
