WOMEN'S WORLD

Mrs Donald Mcintosh., of Hamilton. Dominion president of the National Council of Women, who met members of the Manawatu branch in Palmerston North yesterday, later proceeded with Mrs J. Harris, of Turakina, to attend the conference of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union in Wellington. At the Manawatu Go-operative' "Women's Guild's recent meeting Mrs Hobertson presided. An interesting discussion was held regarding the forthcoming celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the International Guild movement. This Promises to be an affair which will attract considerable attention and it is hoped to complete all arrangements at the next meeting, after which an announcement will appear in the columns of this paper.

When passing through Wellington recently Miss Margaret O linen., formerly assistant propagator at Messrs Harrison's Nurseries, Palmerston North, who is now at iiio jjotamu; Gardens in Ghristehureh, was presented with the Cockayne Gold Medal of the Royal New Zealand Institute , of Horticulture for being the best student in the institute's diploma examination, 1910. The following members of the institute's executive and examining board were present: Dr. W. It.. P. Oliver. Messrs J. G. MacKenzie, W. K. Dallas, W. T. Goodwin. F. C. Renyard, Wm. C. Hyde, and G. S. Nicoli (Dominion secretary). The presentation was made by Mr J. G. MacKenzie, Wellington vice-president, who sa.id it had been a line idea for the institute to dedicate the medal in honour of a great botanist. Dr. Oliver considered it a very high honour to win the medal, which appropriately commemorated an outstanding botanist who was also a great gardener. illDallas was pleased to hear that their guest would still he carrying on her horticultural work in a place where her results would be evidence to the public.
