WAX FROM PEAT DEPOSITS

Peat deposits in the Chatham Islands which contain waxy material suitable tor the manufacture of wax polishes are being investigated by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. The Minister in charge of the department (Mr Sullivan) said yesterday that this investigation was part of a search for substitutes for imported materials now unavailable or in short, supply. It was one of the important war activities of the department.
