SCHOOLING TASKS

WORK AT AWAPTJXI. (By "Spectator.") With the approach of tho Manawatu Hunt meeting, track work at Awapuni is attracting increased attention. There was some interesting schooling work this morning.

Starting at the brush near the six-furlong post both gave a •splendid exhibition of jumping all the way. Krination showed ho ltad not forgotten hio fall at the sod wall on Saturday, for when ho reached that obstacle ho inado a magnificent jump. Over Iho hurdles, Cartoonist (Temperton) showed to better advantage than Colincamps (Anderson), who was inclined to jump too high, thus losing ground. He was very careful. Cuisinicr (Miss F. White) and a companion. (Temperton) also went; over four hurdles, the former rapping some of them. Miss Lcighon (Bowdcn) and Etruscan (Miss White) wasted no time when they went out to school oyer three hurdles. Both jumped well, with Miss Lcighon doing slightly tho better. The poles on the course proper were a long way out and lioites were galloping a fair distance over the tasks marked for them. The track was holding, but can bo said to be in good winter order. Myarion (Waddcll) and Tau-Uru (Kwan) finished on terms at the end of seven furlongs run in 1.39, and it was a good effort, both moving well throughout. Wings of Song (Redstone), who is coming to hand nicely, ran six furlongs in 1.24 4-5. Ho is a good galloper. Alter a slow beginning. Rcnascor (Waddcll) and. Lacan (Stewart) ran the first three furlongs of seven in 43sec and completed their task in 1.42 1-5, both running on well. Going at half-pace once round. Bridegroom (Anderson) and Kanui To i'ai (Broughton) jumped away at the mile post and, keeping together all the wav, finished on terms in 1.55 1-5. Bridegroom is an acceptor lor the Hack Cup on Saturday; he was not entered for any jumping events. Swell Chance (Stewart) and Manahau (Waddcll) went fast early, but »«re not bustled at the finish to register 1.11 for five furlongs. Colibri (Redstone) finished ahead of Colerica (Uaddy) at the end of six furlongs in 1.26 2-5 Colibri is looking a picture at present. An excellent gallop was recorded by Sanction (Waddcll) when he ran seven furlongs in 1.38 3-5. He moved fret ly throughout and was running on strongly »t tho end. Rangitikci (BroughtotO and Inform (Slewarll set Die main ligures for tho morning whep they covered five furlongs in 1.9. In a. trial over mx furlongs. Gaelic Song (Caddy) was clear of Acrobat (Broughton) in 1.28. but they wore not knocked about. Star Zone (Waddcll) was sent over the saino ground and was under a hold to register 1.26 15. When in the mood he is a good galloper. Ridden by Broughton, Auburn Lad cantered a'ouml to the five furlong peg and then came homo in I.lo—a useful effort ou his own. Sweet Anne again showed a good deal cf dasli in her work; she ran half :i mile in 57see. The stablematcs, Old Bill (Broughton) am' St. Felicien (Stewart), ran a smart half-mile and were on terms at the finish in 56scc. Old Bill is standing up well to his work. The Dozer, under 11. K. Gray s charge, is to leave Auckland on Thursday and race at A'wapuni on Saturday. If he reveals encouraging form ho will likely go on to Riccartoa for the Grand National carnival.
