REPAIRING BOMB DAMAGE
OFFERS TO YVESTMTNSTER. (British Official YYireless.) (Bee. 11.35 a.ni.) RUGBY, May 16. Offers’ to assist in investigating the effect of the destruction at YY'estminster during the recent raids has come from Oxford and Australia. The Oxford Union Society has decided to offer the Speaker of the House of Commons its despatch boxes to replace those destroyed in the recent raid on London. The Oxford boxes are 118 years old and were used by Air Gladstone and Sir Robert Peel when they went to Oxford. They are facsimiles of those which were in the House of Commons. According to a Press Association message, Senator Foil announced yesterday that huge beams of Australian hardwood were to he offered by tlici Government on behalf of the people of Australia to help repair the roof of YVestminster Hali, although the actual work cannot be undertaken until the end ol the war. An earlier start will be made on 'fashioning the timbers if the offer is accepted.
