The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) and Lady IS'cwall have consented to accept office as patrons of the Royal Society of New Zealand for the Health of Women and Children (I’lunket Society). Miss W. Gibbs, of Wellington, has been the guest of Miss Irene Nettlefold, of -Ferguson Street.
Among the judges at the forthcoming competitions festival will be Miss Phyllis Oliver, of Wellington (operatic dancing); Miss Margaret Laurence, of Eltham (national dancing); and Mrs Cullord Bell, of Wellington (elocution sections). The otlieial accompaniste will be Miss Thelma Cornish, late of Wanganui. Mrs V. 'Jong, of the staff of the Premier Drapery Company, has received a cablegram from her husband, Lieut. E. Tong (formerly of Hamilton) informing her that he is safe and well and a further message announcing his promotion to the rank of captain. Last evening members of the P.D.C. staff enjoyed a supper-party when Mr W. M. Sexton (managing director) expressed to Mrs Tong the pleasure oi her associates in the good news. . A pleasant afternoon was spent by members ot the Sunshine Club and their friends when there was a largo gathering at the Business Girls’ Club. Alesdames E. A. Shaw, Waller, and Bockett were the hostesses and items were given by Miss M. Pcnketh, Mrs C. Jamieson (vocal solos accompanied by Mrs Ax), Miss D. Waller (Highland dances) and Alisses Goodwin (recitations and accordion solos). Competitions also provided interest. The monthly donation was allocated to the St. John Ambulance Association. Decorations in autumn tints of chrysanthemums and African daisies were artistically arranged. There was a happy gathering when Air Leo Levy, second son of Air and Airs A. Levy, of Palmerston North, was tendered a farewell party before returning with the machine-gunners to Trentham Camp prior to leaving for overseas, Airs Levy and Airs 1,. Burling, were the hostesses. Alusie, cards, and dancing were enjoyed and the guest of the evening received some useful gifts. Air Leo Levy thanked his mother and lather, Air and Airs Burling, and all present for the surprise party. Among those present wore Air and ATrs L. Burling. Air and Afrs C. Bell. Aiiss T. Anderson. Air and Afrs P. K. Levy. Mr and Airs John Stevens, Messrs R. Alclntyre, M. Brown. Mark and Alaurice Levy, and other friends.
