RANGITIKEI
Marton bade farewell to another contingent of soldiers at an impromptu gathering at the railway station when soldiers who have been on 10 days’ leave, returned to camp. ’lbe Mayor (Mr F. Purnell), who is also chairman of the local Patriotic Society) presented ouch soldier with a money belt and wallet; Mr A. O. Scott, on behalf of St. John Ambulance, gave a small parcel to each of the men; cigarettes were distributed by Mrs C. Whitford and Mrs D. MeClintock. The men returning to camp were: Messrs G S. Slyfield, T. Moore, A. D. FullertonSmith. R. Whale, L. Schultz, R. Death, N. Rivers, G. Stevens and M. Grifiin. A presentation \yas also made to Mr J. Burgess, a Marton member of the Air Force who is on leave. A decision to go into rgpess for the duration of the war was made by members attending a meeting of the Marton Men’s Hockey Club. This followed information before the meeting that Redding had applied to and been granted permission to play in the Manuwatu Association’s competition, and the Marton club is ufiili. ated to the Feilding Association.
