LABOUR'S CANDIDATE FOR MAYORALTY mi Mr C. It. Murphy, Labour's candidate for the Mayoralty, is a well-known figure in Trade Union and Labour circles, and is perhaps the most capable organiser and chairman in the movement. Mr Murphy has lived ill Palmerstoni North since early childhood, his parents being farmers, and in his youth was connected for many years with the freezing industry. During tins period he was for some time president of the Lonffburn branch of the Freezing Workers' Union, and was also president of the North Island Freezing Workers' Association until his retirement from that industry some ten years ago since when he has been successfully 'contracting on his own account. s During his long connection with industrial organisations he has held manv official positions and is to-day president of the Wellington Area of the New Zealand Workers' Union and president of the Manawatu [Trades Council. Tn political circles too, Mr Murphy enjoys a similar measure of confidence, and after some years as vice-president was this year elected president ol tlie Palraerston North Labour Representation Committee. He is a member of the Manawatu Automobile Association Executive, servin ,r on the general and administration committees of that body, and is a member also of the 6a Manpower Committee and a recently-appointed member of the Primary Production Council for this district. Always interested in amateur sport Mr Mu'rphv was president of the United Amateur Wrestling Club during the time that body was so successful in this district. He is popular with all sections of the community. and his executive ability, bis sound judgment and his pleasing personality have gained him the respect and confidence of all witn whom he has been associated.—P.B.A.
