As against 3G polling booths for the | Jasi local body elections in the city there will be 17 to-morrow, when the municipal elections will be held. The returning officer (Mr J. 11. Hardie) ha,s_niaae ample provision for the voting and if the attendance of the voters- is reasonably spread throughout'the day there should be no undue delay, j With the booths throughout the day are -17 deputy returning officers and 47 1 poll clerks, voting being from 'J a.m. I to 6 p.m., and when tne poll closes there will be two additional scrutineers lor each booth, making 04 additional; .scrutineers in all. It is hoped that the result of the Mayoral election villi bo announced soon after 7 p.m. On this occasion voters will not; score out the names of the candidates ' for whom they do not desire to vote, but will place a cross in a square op-; posito each candidate they vote for. ; With three candidates for the Mayor- 1 alty, 12 for nine seats on the City Council, six for four seats on the Hospital Board, and five contesting the three seats on the .Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, voters' will have much to occupy their attention when they receive their papers. No provision is made in the local body elections for absentee voting, to include invalids and such other persons, the voter having to attend a polling booth in person. In some cases doubt is still held as to those who are entitled to vote. OnJy those persons on the roll are allowed to do so, ratepayers going on the roll automatically. Persons who have resided in the electoral district concerned for three months and in the Dominion for 12 mouths are also entitled to inclusion, this qualification being termed a "residential" one.
