HOCKEY

At a meeting of the management committee of the Manawalu Hockey Association, Mr L. Martin presiding, a deputation from the Feilding Hockey Association sought permission for Feilding teams to play in the Manawatu Association's competitions owing to there being little likelihood of there being sufficient in Feilding this season to permit of matches there. It was stated by Messrs Truss and Pucker, j representing the Feildinc Association, that it hud been anticipated that sufficient teams would be forthcoming to permit of competition games being proceeded with, but depletions due to the «ar would apparently make this impossible. It was thought that one senior and one junior team would be forthcoming, with possibly another senior team from Onepulil. 'I be Feilding teams were prepaied to plav homc-atid-away matches in the Manawatu competitions if their entries wtrt. wept ed. It was decided to admit the Feilding team:, provided that they made arrangements with the Feilding Association for the use of two grounds every Saturday. It was suggested that the Feilding A* sociation should make application lo become a sub-association of Manawatu for the duration of the war, without the nl terution of boundaries. This would permit of Feilding being represented on llin Manawatu executive and would eiiablu Feilding players to be included in Manuwutu's representative teams. Consent was received from the Uangitikci Association for Feilding ladies to play in Palmcrston North this season. Mr Luwrv. who has captained the Manawatu representative team for the past two or three seasons, and who will bo playing his final game here on Saturday, was farewellcd by the chairman and thanked for what he had done for hockey.
