SUPPLIES OF TOBACCO

(British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, May 15. America has agreed to send tobacco under the Lease and Lend Act, Mr A. H. Macwell, the Tobacco Controller, announced. Supplies sufficient for all Britain's needs are already awaiting shipment. More tobacco was being released from bond than ever in the history of the industry, he added. Information having been received that Germany has discontinued the free issue of cigarettes to British prisoners of war, the War Office, in consequence, has taken 'parallel action where German prisoners of war art; concerned. This does not mean, however, that parcels of tobacco and cigarettes despatched from Britain are not reaching prisoners, in Germany. There is much evidence that parcels are getting through quite regularly. Prisoners are also able to purchase cigarettes in the camp canteens, but obviously the quality is by no means the same.
