j Mrs J. H. Scrapie', of 10 Mansford I Place, has received cabled advice that ' her husband, 2nd Lieut. Scmplc, was safely evacuated from Greece. Private advice received by Mr and Mrs A. E. Lynch, of Massey Street, Palmerston North, states that their son. Private P. A. Lynch, of the 2nd N.Z.E.F., has been evacuated from Greece and is safe and 'well. Mr E. M. Carter, accountant in the local branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has been appointed to the audit and relieving stall' and will take up his now duties towards the end of the month. Mr Carter will 6till be stationed at Palmerston North, but a, large part of his time will be spent travelling \
Jhe tnends of Mr F. S. Knowles, ot 199 Park Road, will regret to learn that he passed away in the Palmers; ton North Hospital last evening after having suffered a lengthy illness. Mr Knowles was a compositor by trade and at varying periods was engaged in Palmerston North and elsewhere. In late years he undertook the duties of voluntary traffic patrolman in Eroadwav.
Detective O. S. W. Power, ol Palmerston No.'*.i. has been transferred tu Auckland and will leave for that city in the near future. Detective Power joined the Police Force in 1925 and served at Auckland for a short period in the uniform branch, later being transferred to the detective department, where he obtained his class as a detective in 1930. He remained in Auckland until .May. 1931, . when he was transferred to Dunedin. In August, 1933, he came to Palmerston North. He.will be replaced by a detective from Auckland. Mr A. Tong, who was formerly manager of Hawke's Bay Amusements, Ltd., and who has been'' transferred to Palmerston North as manager of the Regent Theatre in succession to Mr V. Clouston, has returned from Wellington alter having completed arrangements for his transfer. Mr Tong's appointment takes effect as from next Friday. Mr Clouston has been appointed exhibition manager to New Zealand Theatres, Ltd., with headquarters in Wellington. During the time Mr Clouston has been stationed in this centre he has made many friends who will congratulate him on his new appointment.
The casually list of yesterday reported the death of Private Ivan Ashley Moss, the eldest son of Mr and Mrs C. H. Moss, ot Botanical Road. L'almcrston North Born in Foxton some -18 years ago, Private Moss was apprenticed at an early age to his father, who was a racehorse trainer. Mr J. H. Jefferd, of Hastings, on one occasion took Private Moss to Australia, where he was engaged* in riding work. He was. very interested» in horses and could go to scale at about S.O. When his weight increased he took on hurdle racing and scored a number of victories. Private Moss enlisted for service with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in Wan<ianui. where- he was then employed. He was a single man.
