MAYORAL CAMPAIGN

Mr W. B. Tennent, who is contesting the Mayoralty, addressed a gathering of residents ot Hokowhitu last. evening, when his exposition of civic administration and lus policy were given an attentive hearing.. In reply to a questioner who asked why a better bus service could not be provided for Hokowhitu. Mr Tennent explained that the licet of nine buses operated by the city were fully taxed| to satisfy the growing demands of the! growing population and that if further! buses could be obtained a more satis-] factory service could be rendered. A vote ot thanks was accorded the candidate on the motion of Mr M. Williamson, seconded bv Mr Melville. CANDIDATES' MEETINGS.

Citizens, therefore, will be combining pleasure witb duty in giving one Saturday night in three years to their city's affairs and attend in large numbers to hear Mr Tennent speak in tho Municipal Hall at the Opera House, to-night, at 6 p.m. Mr Noel Rodgers will preside. With the closing of nominations to-day, interest in the Mayoral, election has been quickened and the campaign will be in full swing next week. Mr A. K. Mansford will open his campaign in the Ot>cra House on Monday night at 3 o'clock. It is his intention to give a full exposition of the financial position of the city, with particular reference to the last three years. The activities of the council generally will bo reviewed, and it is expected that there will be a large attendance.
