END OF THE TERM
COUNCILLORS CONGRATULATED. Thanks were extended by the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) to the members of tho City Council, at tho conclusion of the monthly meeting, lust evening, for their support and co-operation during the [last three years, the meeting being the last for the current term. The M.nyor said that members had displayed keenness to do the work for which'they had been elected. All had respected tho opinions of their colleagues, even though they had not agreed at all times. To Cr G. Treinaine, tho deputy-Mayor, Mr -Mansford, voiced thanks for assistance and support. To tho six members who intend to £tand again for tho council Mr Manstord expressed his best wishes, and regarding the two not seeking reelection, Crs W. Mouldey and 11. E. Townshend, neither of whom was able to be present, he expressed regret that they were retiring on account of illhealth. Both had carried out their duties conspicuously, Cr Mouldey having been a member of the council for eight years and Cr Townshend for three. " To Cr W. B. Tennent, an aspirant for mayoral honours, Mr Mansford expressed the hope that the poll would be a record one, and said that if Cr Tennent should win he would give him his whole-hearted co-operation, and tie knew he would receive the samo from Cr Tennent if he (Mr Mansford) won. The Mayor moved that the council place on record its appreciation of the 'faithful and unremitting services to the I city of the two retiring members. Tho motion was seconded by Cr Tremaine, who thanked the Mayor for his kindly references and also lor tho able manner in which he had presided over and conducted the council meetings over the past three years. The motion' was carried and councillors and the heads of the departments weiv later entertained by the .Mayor.
