The Governor-General Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newall will pay a visit to Dunedin next week.
_ Messrs I!. W. McVillv and A. C. Kitto have been presented with gold medallions in recognition of their life membership of the Now Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.
ltev. Canon D. J. Davies, of St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral, Wellington, and formerly vicar of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Terrace Hnd, will be the principal speaker at the Aiizae Day service in Palmerston North this year.
The death has occurred suddenly of Captain id. A. Dillner, D.S.C., aged 6d, Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Auckland. Captain Dillner hail a long and varied career at sea. and was formerly Superintendent of -Mercantile .Marine at Dunedin.
Air A. Coleman, 5.. M., chairman oi the No. 15 Armed Forces Appeal Board, and -Messrs T. it. Lees and T. H. B. ldwens, members, who have been engaged in a sitting of the hoard at Palmerston North, leave this evening for Taihape, where the next sitting will he held.
Staff members of the New Zealand Loan and .Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., from the Manawatu and Wairarapa branches gathered in the company's -Masterton offices to express their good wishes to -Mr A. M. Henderson on his retirement from the company’s service. A presentation of a fireside chair was made to Mr Henderson from his colleagues. and t lie Palmerston North manager, Mr K. F. Kirk, expressed their regret at losing the services of such a well-known stock man. An aspect touched on during the meeting was the exceedingly cordial relations existing for 25 years between Air Henderson and his successor. Air Garland, who paid a warm tribute to Mr Henderson.
'Flic death lias occurred of Air Frederick S. Potter, of Panmu’re Auckland at the age of 8t years. He was well known as a generous benefactor to Auckland. Air Potter presented areas of land to the Afount Kden and Takapuna Borough Councils for public reserves. A Freemason, lie made a giit of land at Panmurc to the Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand as a site lor rent-free cottage homes for aged Freemasons anil their wives. The first two cottages were erected at his own cost. In 1929 he' presented a property at Papakura to tile Grand Lodge for a hoys’ home. Ho also created a trust with a capital of £50.000 for the maintenance of the institution which was opened two years later.
