PATRIOTIC MONEY.

PROPOSAL OBJECTED TO. WELLINGTON, March 25. Objection to a suggestion that patriotic moneys should be devoted to providing paths and amenities at guard posts was expressed by the Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr J. 4Y. Andrews) at a meeting of the. Wellington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee yesterday. “It’s a terrible thing when the Patriotic Fund should be called on to pay the cost of paths in the camps,” he said. “It’s up to the Government to pay it out of the War Expenses Account. 1 must protest stroDglv at the use of patriotic moneys for this purpose. The chairman, Mr T. C. A. Hislop (Mayor of Wellington) said that a request had been received for £IOO for the guard posts around Wellington. There was a considerable number of men involved, and it was intended to make the accommodation at the guard posts more or less permanent. The money was for making paths, whitewashing stones, and generally making the camps attractive. It would cover the cost of materials for all the guard-posts; all the work would be done by the men themselves. It was remarked that the money had not been subscribed for this purpose. It was decided that the chairman should approach the Minister on the subject.
