SPIRITUAL FACTOR.
BISHOP'S EMPHASIS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 24. '•God is not absent from His earth; he enables men and women to dare to do the impossible. It is in strength of that faitii that again to-day we join in prayer at our King's behest, with, millions of men and women in every corner of the earth," said the Bishop of Wellington (Rt. Rev. H. Holland), speaking at the citizens' intercessory service in the Town Hall this afternoon. The large hail was filled a quarter of an hour before the service began and many stood in the toyer to listen to the proceedings relayed through loud speakers. Prayers were offered by clergymen representing most of the religious denominations. The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) read the Scripture. The Mayor (Mr T. C A. Hislop), who presided, said the gathering showed that people realised that the essential thing in the great struggle was not the material gain from the light but to bring back the forces of spiritual life in all nations throughout the world. In his address, Bishop Holland said: "God has answered our prayers as He constantly does through the cooperation of that elusive thing we term the human personality. It is the heroism of .the British people, the audacity and rockiike courage of the Greeks, the strategy and endurance of our Army in the Middle East, 1 and the new purpose of the United States that • England shall not die and that freedom shall not perish from the earth which have been the answer to the prayers of the last few ,months." Special prayers were also offered in all the churches.
