STRICKLAND GOES TO SYDNEY. ! Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 23. Maurice Strickland, New Zealand heavyweight boxer, and his manager, Jack Crowley, sailed for Sydney yesterday. Strickland is signed lip to fight under the auspices of Stadiums Ltd., Sydney, and will meet Carmen Bartli, American heavyweight, next Monday, Strickland may remain in Australia for some time. LOUIS BEATS SIMON. DETROIT, March 22. The huge New York boxer, Abe Simon, 18st 2£lb, astounded the boxing world to-night by lasting until the, thirteenth round' of a scheduled 20round contest for the world heavyweight title with Joe Louis, 14st 61b, before a crowd of 19,000 people. Louis was defending his title for the fifteenth time.
ARMY v. AIR FORCE. On a floodlit outside ring at Levin, an Army v. Air Force and interstation boxing contest was staged. Army contestants were members of the Wellington-East Coast Mounted Regiment from the Foxton military camp and the R.N.Z.A.F. contestants camo from Rongotai and Ohakea to fight. against members of the Levin station. Results: McCartin (11.8, Foxton) boat McDonald (11.8, Levin); James (10.4, .Foxton) lost to Freeman (10.1, Rongotai); Jones (Great War veteran. Ohakea) beat Hamilton (Great War veteran. Levin). This bout was refereed by Mr G. Watchorn. P O'Donnell (10.0, Levin Boxing Club) Iqst to Blomfield (10.0. Levin); Quarry (13.4, Ohakea) boat Inwood (13.7, Levin); (Eales (10.7, Foxton) beat Hampson. (10.7, Levin); Ncatch (9.12, Foxton) lost to Duncan (10.0, Levin); Griffin (10.3, Foxton) drew with Moller (10.4, Levin). Exhibition bout: Sharp fought three twouiinuto rounds against Johnstone, Ohakea. Midget bout: Bishop (6.2) drew with Rankin (6.21. Wainwright (10.7, Foxton) lest to C. Brisco (10.7. Levin); Cardno (10.3. Foxton) lost to Osboldstone (10.4.
