MAKINO, March 13. Organised by. Mrs W. E. Baker, a euchre and dance was held in the hall on Monday, in aid of the Women's Institute soldiers' parcels' fund. At euchre, Mr W. E. Hills and Mr W. D. R. Baker tied for first place, the former finally proving the winner; sealed prize, Mr A. E. Shalders. Mrs Heayns and Mrs Schrieber tied for the ladies' prize, the latter proving the winner, while Mrs Mayhew won tho sealed prize. Several items were rendered by Miss Moyra Reid, Wallace Reid, and by Mrs Reid. The music for the dancing was kindly supplied by Mrs Reid and Mr J. Reid, visitors to the district from Napier, The fund will benefit to the extent of £2 lOsc, this being most gratifying. On March 9 the Methodist Church held its annual harvest festival, the afternoon service being conducted by Rev. K. A. Robinson and the evening service by Ml Campbell. The church, with its offering of flowers, fruit and vegetables, was very attractive, and there was a good gathering at both services. On Tuesday evening the sale of the goods took place, from which the excellent sum of £6 2s 5d will bo added to the circuit funds. Mrs Portch presented two humorous recitations, both being well received, and a written compction was held. Mr Robinspn, on behalf of all present, thanked the ladies responsible for the decorations at the church and all who had given donations and goods. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr P. P. Stevens, of Feilding, for .his services in auctioning the goods. Mrs P. Petersham has returned home from a holiday spent with her son at Wanganui and Miss V. Petersen has now gone to stay with her brother. _ Mrs _ W. Toohey is spending a holiday with friends in Pahiatua. Constable P. T. Reid and Mrs Reid have returned to Napier after a holiday spent with Mr and Mrs T. A. Shalders.
