GUILDS’ GARDEN PARTY.

A change from the business of the Presbyterian General Assembly, at present being held in Palmerston North, was enjoyed by delegates and by those attending th 6 Presbyterian Women’s Missionary. Union Conference, on Saturday afternoon, when they attended a garden party’ arranged by members of St. Andrews’ and tit. David’s Ladies’ Guilds and held at the home of Mr and Mrs W. B. Tennent, of Featherston Street. Between 400 and 500 attended, and the weather was delightfully mild and sunny. Mrs Tennent received the guests wearing mulberry georgette with bronze embroideries, a straw hat 'to tone and stone-marten furs. Mrs G. W. Jupp, wife of the Moderator, wore a printed silk frock with navy coat and hat. ‘There was tennis for those who desired to play, but most of those present preferred to wander about the grounds admiring the beautiful trees bordering the drive, the gay garden beds and lawns and the lovely vistas from the terrace. The presence of the Highland Pipe Baud enlivened proceedings, their spectacular march up the drive to the terrace and spirited selections being much appreciated. The opportunity was taken by the Moderator (lit. itev. G. H. Jupp) to thank Mr and Mrs Tennent and the ladies of St. Andrew’s and St. David’s Guilds for the party, which was most enjoyable. The same care and attention had characterised all the arrangements made for carrying out the conlerence, he said, to ensure that their stay in uie city should be happy and comfortable. Mr Tennent, who bad flown from Dunedin to be present, briefly acknowledged the remarks on behalf of Mrs Tennent and himself, assuring the gathering that everyone had felt honoured to have the Assembly in Palmerston North.
