ERSATZ BOMBS.
GERMANY FEELS PINCH. RESORT TO~SUBSTITUTES. "LONDON, Oct. 22. The Moscow radio states that Germany ia using concrete for the bombs dropped on Britain. The vast expenditure on metal has caused Ger- | many to use substitutes. The is not a 6 strong as metal, but a concrete bomb has sufficient penetrating power to pierce two or three floors of an ordinary dwellinghouse. It is added that the German petrol incendiary bomb is also a substitute for more expensive incendiary material, although the igniting power is smaller. The Associated Press learns that a Heinkel bomber shot down recently ha* its wheels tyred with rope. This is considered clear proof of the effectiveness of the blockade, also the R.A.F. bombing of the German synthetic rubber works. • , • , Three enemy aircraft were destroyed in Tuesday's air action, states an Air Ministry communique.
