MERELY HAMMER BLOWS.
NAIVE GERMAN EXPLANATION
LONDON, Oct. 8,
An official spokesman in Berlin declared: “This isn’t a blitzkrieg, but merely hammer blows against England. Germany has adopted a new method of air warfare that is designed to achieve:— First, absolute control of the Channel and the entire English coastal area. . , Secondly, complete annihilation ot London, including all military objectives and the industrial production. Thirdly, paralysis of Britain’s industrial, technical and civil life. , Fourthly, demoralisation of the civil population in London and the provinces. . . c Fifthly-, a progressive weakening or the British fighter force.” He added that the operations so far we re merely in their initial phase. A London commentator remarked: “This is a strange announcement, .as the Germans are already claiming that these objectives have largely been attained.” He added, “In the meantime t j ic R.A.F.’s one-point programme is proceeding well. It is the smashing of Germany’s military production.”
