MAYOR OF FEILDING
ESSENTIAL SERVICE. COUNTY COUNCIL’S VIEW. The Alanawatu County Council yesterday decided, on the motion of the chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber), to seek exemption from Territorial service of Mr T. L. Seddon, Mayor of Feilding, who is also the chairman of the Manawatu Man-Power Committee and whose name was among those drawn in >tho recent ballot. Cr. Barber introduced the subject, pointing out that while every man was required to do his duty for /the country, Mr Seddon .was performing excellent service in his present positions. The speaker knew Mr Seddon would go to camp if the matter were left to him.
The clerk (Mr A. K. Drew) said' Mr Seddon occupied a key position in the district in regard to patriotic work, and he would be very hard to replace. Crs. Reid, Eagan, Boyce and Moreom, and the engineer (Mr H. V. Bond) spoke in commendation of Mr Seddon’s services and the council decided to seek his exemption from Territorial service, thus supporting a request to be made by the Eeilding Chamber of Commerce.
