INDOOR BOWLS.

At a one-night 'rinks tournament, the eleventh of the season, held by the Palmerston North Friendly Societies’ Indoor Bowling Association twelve rinks participated. Three games were played and three rinks skipped by Bros. A. Uawick, J. Peterana and A. F. Jackson each registered three wins. Bro. Jackson, whose supporting players wore H. L. Langford, T. O’Con-nell-and 11. J. King, won on aggregate, his score being 36 against Petenna’s 32 and Dawiek’s 31. The president (Bro. E. W. Drake) presented the cups and trophies won in the association’s annual competitions, the results of which were: —Rinks: W. Whitehead, G. Hansen, junr., Mrs Scales, A. F. Jackson (skip); 12 points, runners-up, Mrs Hansen, W. Stewart, A. J. Hunt, H. Bowler (skip), 11 points. Progressive pairs: Lead, Mrs Drake, 10 points, aggregate score 56; runner-up. R. Higgins, 9 —54; skip, M. Bailey, 10—47; runner-up, C. W. Turner, 10 —40. Ladies' singles .championship :* Mrs Hansen, 10 points; runner-up, Mrs Scales, 8 points; tho winner also holds the championship cup for one year. Men’s handicap singles: P. Garrity, 14 points; runner-up, H. L. Langford, 13 points. R. Higgins, who scored 12 points and registered the highest aggregate score of 84 was third, and was congratulated on his performance, being the oldest member of tho association. The winner also holds the men’s singles cup for one year. Previous winners of this cup are: 1936. A. Dawick; 1937, E. Burrell; 1938, R. Stewart, senr. Mr Drake took tho opportunity of making a presentation to Bro. 11. Tullett, the honorary secretary, stating that Mr Tullett had carried out his duties most efficiently and had also done much regular work not involved in his secretarial duties. The presentation took the form of an initialled pen . and pencil set and was made on behalf of tho association. Tho services of the president and Mrs Drake were referred to by the vice-president (Bro. C. Purcell), who asked their acceptance of two fire-side chairs from members as an expression of appreciation of unselfish service to tho association. Representatives of lodges, clubs, and also other speakers supported the vice-president in his remarks. Thanks for the kindly remarks and for the presentation was expressed by Bro. Drake.
