“DAY OF SALVATION.”
PREMIER’S DECLARATION.
(Rec. 11.15 a.m.) BUCHAREST, Oct. 7 When 60,000 Green Shirts and 20,000 peasants in national regional costume demonstrated in the public square, the Premier (General Antonescu) declared that September 6 (the date when King Carol abdicated) liad been a day of salvation for Rumanian rights, in commemoration of which t'he name of the square would bo September Sixth Square. ■The Italian, German, and Japanese Ministers were present. A Rome message says that Mr Herbert Matthews, chief correspondent of the New York Times has been asked to leave Italy for sending reports likely to disturb relations between the Axis and the United States. It is officially announced that Mr Matthews was expelled because one of his reports falsely declared that Italy and Ge'rmany would interfere in the United States elections.
IRON GUARD DISPLAY.
LONDON, Oct. 6.
About ] 00.000 members of the Iron Guard held a mass demonstration in Bucharest to-day. Sp r ecial trains brought in 40,000 supporters from other parts of the country, and there were also present representatives of the German army and the German Youth Movement. The demonstration was addressed bv General Antonescu, the Rumanian dictator, and by. the Iron Guard leader.
