STRATFORD LINE.
WORK OF RESTORATION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 7. Every effort is being made by the Railway Department to have the Strat-ford-Main Trunk Line open for express traffic by Labour Day, so that confusion with holiday trains will be minimised. It is expected that the .Auck-land-New Plymouth expresses will resume running on the line on October 20 for the first time since it was extensively damaged during the floods eight months ago. Many major obstacles have had to b© removed since repair work began on February 25. and at. the peak of activity over 200 men were employed with machinery which included bulldozers, winches, and hauling gear. Over 200 slips required clearing, 30 subsidences and washouts were filled, and about 50 culverts and water drives were restored. , • . ,
