COMING-OF-AGE PARTY.
On Saturday evening Mr and Mrs Suiter, of Lyndhurst Street, entertained approximately sixty guests at the Business Girls’ Club rooms on the occasion of the coming-of-age of Mrs Suiter’s eldest son, Sydney Arnold Kilmister. A very enjoyable time was spent in dancing, items being rendered by Miss Audrey Wilton, Master Graham Wilton, Mr H. Drake, and the guest of honour, Mr Kilmister. Among the guests were: Misses It. Preston, A. McMillan, R. Swinburn, M. Chisnall, Messrs J. Young, B. Currie, R. Bowie, and R. Brabant, of Wellington, H. L. A. Arnold, of Masterton (uncle of the guest of honour), L.-W. Haxcell, R.N.Z.A.F., Levin, and C. L. Dew, R.N.Z.A.F., Ohakea. Although unfortunately unable to be present, Mr and Mrs Arnold Spencer, of Auckland, sent a very handsome chromium-plated 21st birthday key. Mrs Suiter wore a liand-embroidered powder blue uncrushable taffeta frock, with shoulder spray of pink carnations, and a white fur cape. Mr H. Drake made a very efficient M.C. Mr Kilmister was the recipient of a large number of gifts, among them being a very, handsome gladstone bag presented by workmates from tho Government Beed Testing Station. On opening the bag a humorous scroll was handed to the guest of honour, and while reading it an electric “time bomb,” very cleverly made and concealed in confetti in the bag by Mr -S. LeonardTaylor, exploded, covering those in the vicinity with confetti. Mr Kilmister suitably responded to the presentation speech and acknowledged the gifts. Supper was served and concluded with the cutting of the cake made by Mrs Suiter and iced by Mr Weightman, the usual toasts being acknowledged.
