LIES REFUTED.

BY NATIVE PEOPLE. (British Official •Wireless.') RUGBY, Oct. 5. The Governor of Nigeria has received a letter from Abukuknr, Sultan of Sokoto and spiritual head of the Moslems of the Northern Provinces of Nigeria, stating:—“l wish to inform you that Ave heard recently that the German wireless said the slave-driven natn es of the English colonies are compelled bv force to contribute to the Win the War Fund. That is a lie, and I would like to ask Hitler whether it is by force also that we gather in our mosques and schools to offer up prayers from our hearts day and night for the success of British arms and Jor the downfall of His Majesty’s enemies. “When we in Sokoto heard ot the Win the War Fund we agreed that everyone who wished should make a contribution < which seemed pro per. I have the honour to inform Your. Excellency that £6216 11s Id has been collected from all sections of the community and forwarded to the bank m British West Africa at Lagos.” The Sultan of Shihr and Mukalla, which is an independent sultanate in the eastern section of the Aden Protec-a”*-l in treaty relations with the British Government, has made the fol- , ~„g sLuoement: “Italian broadcast stations have been reporting from tune to time that heavy British bombing had had been carried out in the Hadhramaut and that this had caused unnecessary unrest among Arabs. I strongly contradict this statement as it is far from the truth. ... I have to add tlmt the Arabs in Quaiti State and the Hadhramaut generally' are , w -y nappy under their existing friendly relationships with the British Government.”
