Subscriptions to the 2J per cent, national war bonds during the week ended October 1 totalled £10,942,360. the national savings committee announced, making £228,837,335 since June 25. The amount received by the' Treasury during the week in the form of loans free of interest was £507,679. The loans now total 9027, the amount being £191,017,299.—8riti5h Official Wireless. It is officially stated that Chinese planes for the first time in the war flew over Peiping and dropped 200,000 handbills.-. The planes did not encounter Japanese aerial resistance.
