SHORTAGE OF SHEARERS.
NEEDS IN NEAV SEASON. Per Press Association. AA r ELLINGTON, Oct, 3. A shortage of shearers in many parts of the Dominion may be experienced by the farming community this season, especially, in the southern districts, said the Alinister of National Sen'ice (Hon. R. Semple) in a statement tonight. He added that he had been giving the matter careful consideration, and wished to appeal to all skilled men to co-operate this year and avoid delay in shearing operations. , The Alinister pointed out that much, of the shearing labour customarily available from Australia in past years would not be available this season in New Zealand owing to present conditions, and he appealed to all who had shearing experience to assist wherever possible. He added that special arrangements were being made to ensure that, skilled men were not called, up tor military service during the season and, moreover, co-operation was being arranged through the State 1 lacement Service so that shearing programmes could be fixed and loss of time on circuits avoided.
