Mrs F. Brett presided over the monthly meeting of tho Ilalcoinbe-Kakariki branch qf the W.D.F.U. An apology for absence was received from Airs F. AV. Barnett. A lotter was received from the Dominion secretary indicating that a fund is being opened at headquarters to receive donations for tho purpose of providing gift fighting planes for Britain. It was decided to donate £5 to this fund, and in addition £1 5s to the rest homo. Birthday invitations were received from the Stanway Women’s Institute and tho Tutaemti and Feilding branches of the W.D.F.U.. ’1 ho inter-pro-vincial conference will- this year, bo hold ac Palmerston North. Those wishing to donato gifts to tho Makogai leper station were asked to do so at. the next 'monthly meeting. Albs Alathcson (hospital visitor) wrote thanking the branch for books for the children. A request was also made for general reading matter for hospital inmates. Next month's competition will be for a sponge roll, and the hostesses appointed were Airs A. AlcNac and Miss L. Pryor.

Airs S. Maxwell, ot Waimiha, is spending a holiday with her father, Air \V. AlcLcnnan, of Kakariki. Airs E. W. Cowdroy has returned from Wanganui. Alessrs R, Dais and R. Alillar left to-day for TretV tham to join the Fourth Reinforcements. Aliss Ksme .Nofl'kc, of Wellington, who is recuperating after an illness, is visiting her mother. Airs E. McKinlay. At the Ilalcombc Women's Institute s euchre and dance visitors were present from all the surrounding institutes. Euchre prizes were won by Mrs A. E. Prior 1, Airs W. S. Page 2, Mr 11. Wilson 1, and Air W. S. Page 2. The lucky Gay Gordons dance was won by Aliss M., AtcLennan and Air L. Green; Alonto Carlo, Air F. Prior and partner. Airs R. Williams (president) thanked all who had helped to make the evening a success. Music was supplied by a professional orchestra and extras were played by Alessrs R. Grantham and J. Williams. Mr G. Judd acted as AI.C. Members of the ITawkostono Golf Club, Alarton, will visit Tlalcombc during the week-end to play an inter-club match.
