RANGITIKEI.

MARTON, Oct. 3. Adverse river conditions in the Rangitikei district marred the prospects of anglers for good sport at the opening of the season.

At the annual meeting of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Tennis Club the following officers wore clccled: President, Rev. T. If. Burton; vice-presidents, Messrs P. L. Nicol, W. 11. Brown and L. D. Carey; secretary and treasurer, Mr P. G. M. Parkinson; captain, Mr R. C. Ball; 1 vice-captain, Mr H. G. Parkinson; j groundsman, Ur D. F. Gorrio; committee, ! blisses D. A. Dominctt, R. Zander and Mr R. K. Jones. Reference to the recent death of Mr J. W, Marshall was made by councillors at to-day’s meeting of the Rangitikci County Council. Mr Marshall was a former chairman of the council. The country as a whole and the Rangitikci County in particular had lost a man whose death would be mourned by all, said the chairman (Cr K. W. Dalrymple). While county chairman Mr Marshall had been instrumental in the development of tho county, and tho ratepayers would deeply regret the passing of a gifted gentleman whom all had looked up to with great respect. An appropriate resolution was passed and other members paid high tributes to tho qualities of the late Mr Marshall. A motion of sympathy with tho relatives of the late Mr A. E. Jull, M.P., was passed. Cr K. W. Dalrymple prodded at tho monthly mooting of the Rangitikci County Council. The Local Government Loans Board forwarded notice of its sanction to the council ..raising a loan of £IO,OOO for rural housing. The ~ Department of Agriculture advised .that the council had been granted £l5O for the clearing of noxious weeds under Scheme 13. A contribution of £lO was made towards the alleviation ol distress throughout the Motherland, as requested by the New Zealand Counties’ Association. The Marlon Borough Council advised tho appointments to subcommittees for the Marlon district in connection , with the British children evacuation scheme. The statement of accounts prepared by tho treasurer showed that after to-day’s paments of £1925 the debit balance stood at £26,137. Tho engineer reported on general work done on main highways and county roads.
