EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” OCTOBER 4, 1910.
An area of four and a half acres at the corner of College Street and Botanical Road had been secured for a site for a primary school. The Pohangina River was popular for trout fishing. Fatalities occurred now and again through flannelette clothing catching fire. A woman had been burned so seriously that she had died at Nelson.
The prospects of Makiri Gorge (Pahiatua) as a site for the generation of hydro-electric power had been brought under the notice of the Government. It v..s suggested that sufficient electricity could be generated there to light Palmerston North. Woodvillc, Pahiatua and Mastodon.
A British admiral, interviewed at Sydney, did not think that aeroplanes in war would be the terrible machines most people imagined. They were undoubtedly valuable for observation puropses.
