MILK ZONING PLAN
REJECTED IN ASHBURTON

ASHBURTON, Oct. 4. When hundreds of consumers refused to take delivery of milk under the zoning scheme, which started on Tuesday morning, the milkmen met and decided" to return to their old rounds the next day. The public resented being compulsorily zoned and the milkmen were turned away when they approached the homes of new customers. Public rejection of the scheme was notified to Wellington, and an officer of the Department of Health came to Ashburton on Wednesday and met the milkmen. He was plainly told the plan was all right on paper but unworkable in practice, and the public resented being dictated to. The officer is to make a report to the Government A public meeting of protest last evening decided to send telegrams to the Government stating the town’s disapproval of the system, The meeting also protested against the proposed legislation governing the hours of shops and offices.
