COUNTRY’S SLACKERS
MINISTER'S WARNING
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 3.
In a statement to-night the Minister of National Service (Hon. IP. Semple) made it plain that every possible step is being taken by the Government to ensure complete registration in the first division of the General ReserveUnfortunately, he said, there were a few slackers in the country and it was against them that the regulations’ punitive clauses which the Government would not hesitate to use were aimed.
Air Semple pointed out that it was specifically laid down in the regulations that every eligible man was a reservist whether lie was registered nr not. Failure to register rendered the offender liable to a £IOO fine or 12 months’ imprisonment, or both the fine and imprisonment, and in addition on conviction he might he sent to camp immediately without waiting for a ballot.
