HITLER’S ORDERS
FRENCHMEN AT DAKAR
“ADAIIRAL AVHO SURRENDERED”
(United Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 1.50 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 2. Admiral Aluselier, of the Free French Movement, in <a world broadcast, indicated that Admiral Darlan was betraying his promise to the Allies by abandoning the struggle when his fleet was intact and the personnel desired to continue the fight to expel the invader. Admiral Darlan would go down in history ias the “Admiral who surrendered.”
Admiral Aluselier emphasised that the ships at Dakar were ordered not to fire against the Frenchmen. AVe prefer to be martyrs and not assassins. A word from Admiral Darlan would have resulted in all the French colonies ranging themselves beside the Allies. “1 deplore that Admiral Darlan’s navy devoted itself to carrying out Hitler’s order's to fire against his countrymen. It w'as the most shameful incident in the history of our navy.”
