SUPPLY OF PETROL

NEEDS OF PRODUCTION.

GRANTING OF ALLOWANCES

(By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) K 5 WELLINGTON, Oct 3. Petrol restrictions and possible hardship were the subject of two questions which were answered by the Minister of Supply (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) in the House yesterday. It was pointed out by Mr D. C. Kuld (Waitaki) that it will ho difficult to get shearers this season for outlying districts unless they are given extra petrol to carry out their work expeditiously as they travel in their own cars. He suggested an extra allowance during the shearing season. The Minister replied that instructions have already been issued that where suitable , public transport is not available workmen are to be supplied with sufficient petrol to enable them to carry out their work. In the rationing of petrol, the needs of increased production are being recognised and special consideration will bo given to the cases of shearers. . People in country districts who require urgent medical attention should be given an extra allowance of petrol, in the opinion of Mr Kidd, _ who has been informed by tho Minister _ pf Supply that postmasters have received instructions to make sufficient supplies of petrol available* in cases lequiiing urgent medical \attention. Where the farmer has not enough petrol to journey to the nearest postmaster, added the Minister, the matter may be arranged by. telephone.
