THEFTS REPORTED.

SEEKING CIVILIAN CLOTHES,

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 2

No one has reported having seen auv of the four criminals who escaped from Auckland Prison on Tuesday night after gravely injuring one warder and injuring two others, but tlie cucunistances surrounding the attempted theft of a motor-car from the grounds of a house in Parnell and the theft of a tomahawk, a raincoat, and a cardigan from another house in the same street suggest that the four fugitives have tried to find some form of transport and. civilian clothes to wear. The Auckland Hospital authorities reported late to-night that Mr J. G. Crawford, aged 62, the warder who suffered severe head injuries and lacerations while struggling with his assailants, is seriously ill. The two other warders.. Mr J. W. Scholium, aged 62, and Mr A. Burgess, aged 43, who have slight concussion ana scalp wounds, are m a fairly satisfactory condition.
