Vital statistics for September in Otaki 1 show that there were 11 births (10 European and one Maori), 6 deaths (all European), and no marriages. A presentation was recently made to Miss Holmes, on behalf of the children of the , Otaki Anglican Sunday School, in ap- I preciation of her splendid work. Mr and j Mrs C. Cookslcy, who have been on a | holiday tour of Hawke’s Bay, have re- ; turned to Otaki. Mrs Hickson, who has been in indifferent health, and who has been recuperating in Wellington, lias made good progress and hopes to be able) to return to Otaki at an early date. Those who were injured in the motor accident - on Sunday evening are reported to bo doing well. Dr. Neate, who is in hospital, and who suffered broken bones in his wrist, will return home to-morrow - , but Mr Neate, .who suffered a broken leg, will be in hospital for some time yet. Mr Wills, who suffered from concussion, will be home tomorrow. Mr S. Elliott, who sustained an injury to his jaw. is doing well, but. like the others, is still suffering from shock. Mr M. Fielding was among the more fortunate ones. receiving minor, injuries only. . Constable Calwell, who received bruises to his legs, has been ordered to rest for a few days. Meteorological observations taken by Mr F. 11. Critehlcy, at Otaki Beach. for September, show that the rainfall for the month was 2.27 in.. with a maximum dn ; ly fall of ,54in. (10th.). Snow fell on the ranges on three occasions, while there was one frost. Mr D. 11. I.ea reports that the rainfall for the past nine months in Ctyki totalled 22.96 in. During September Ihc fall was 1.97 in.
