PATRIOTIC APPEALS.

CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE. The citizens’ committee appointed to arrange the raising ol tne district quota of tin: patriotic appeals met yesterday afternoon. There were present the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford), Messrs G. J remaine, . lv. A. Henderson, J. A. Giant, TV. G- Black, It. A. Metcalfe, J. C. Young and C. V. Day (secretary). Apologies for absence were received trom Messrs Hopcroft and McKegg. Mr Alansford was appointed chairman and Mr J. C. Young deputychairman. Air Alansford reported that a conference of delegates from all the zones and inter-zones in the Wellington province would meat in Palmerston North on Saturday, when Hon. Vincent Ward, M.L.C. (hon: secretary) and Major Abel (Dominion organiser) would discuss plans for the coming £1,000,000 appeal, of which Zone D’s share is £18,500. The meeting decided to subdivide Zone D. the city to be allotted four-fifths and the Kairanga County one-fifth of the money to be raised in the zone.

A sub-committee, comprising Messrs Henderson, Black and Young, was appointed to draw up a comprehensive campaign plan after Saturday’s combined meeting and submit it to the next committee meeting. Afessrs C. Y. Day and A. J. F. Lawson were appointed joint secretaries with power to co-opt appropriate assistance.
