Mrs Frank Haines, of Hamilton, is the guest of Mrs D. Howlands, of Palmerston North.

Mrs M. H. Oram, of Featherston Street, who has been visiting Napier, has returned homo to Palmerston North.

Mrs M. Bateman, formerly of Palmerston North, is now doing war work in London, according to an overseas journal. t

Tho secretary of the knitting and hussifs branch of the Women's Pat; riotic Committee was asked to write a letter of sympathy to Mrs W. DWoodham in her illness, at the branch meeting yesterday. Tributes were paid by Mesdames A. E. Mansford and K. S. Manning (convener) to the services rendered by Mrs Woodham, who had worked at the depot almost every day.

The death has occurred in Napier, of Lady Florence Ivatc McLean, relict, of the late Sir Itobert Donald Douglas McLean, former member of Parliament and son of the late Sir Donald McLean, third Superintendent of Hawke’s Bay and founder of Maraekakaho Station- She was imbued with a high sense.of public duty, and took a lead; ing part in many movements for the welfare of the community, particularly as regards the Maoris. During the Great War years, she was actively concerned in patriotic efforts, and closely associated herself with the Walton-on-Thanies Soldiers’ Hospital, of which her husband was one of the founders There was one son and two daughters; the son, Captain McLean saw service in the Great War, and was invalided back to New Zealand and later died of the injuries received in the war. One of the daughters is the wife of Admiral Sauntin, of England.
