COUNTY COUNCIL. ■The monthly meeting of the Woodville County. Council was held to day, when !here were present: —Th© chairman (Cr. M. O. Granger) and Crs K. Peebles, 1L 11. Morgan, IC. D. Cattanach, \V. Galloway. 0. H. Druce and H. Sheffield. Lea\o of absence was granted Cr Mabcy. 'l'he Crippled Children Society (Manawatu branch) enquired whether the council would make an annual grant, and enclosed a copy of its report and balance-shoe t. The weight of opinion was that the council would not be justilied in contributing. A circular lrom the Department of Internal Affairs set out the organisation and plans drawn-up for the care of British children evacuated to New Zealand. —Referred to Cr Galloway. The Lady Galway patriotic Guild forwarded a circular setting forth the objects of the guild. It included instructions for the preparation of goods and disposal of money collected by local guilds. A circular from the Christchurch Tramway Patriotic Committee sponsored an appeal on behalf' of the Christchurch Welcome Club for providing new premises for entertaining soldiers distant from their homes. The council was asked to refer the appeal t© organisations and individuals w'ho may be interested. —Referred to members. The chairman reported on the conference with Hon. D. Wilson regarding the-; llomo Guard, and later the Mayor (Mr R. R. Johnston) and town clerk (Mr D. Keay) attended the meeting to discuss th© matter of advancing the proposals put before the conference by Ml Wilson; The council's assistance' it. the matter of calling a public meeting was sought. A general discussion ensued, but while the council was willing to do its, part it was confronted by lack of precise information, particularly regarding the supply of rifles. The I chairman gave an assurance that the counjcil would do its part iii co-operating. Further inquiries would be made as a preliminary to both bodies going further into the movement. In connection with ihe regulations requiring a survey of service firearms (rifles and revolvers), privately owned, Constable Skinner has inspected a large number of such arms brought in for examination. The ranger (Mr T. S. R. Schaw) reported the collection of two horses and 10 cows during the pact month. RECRUITS FOR CAMP.
