DISEASES IN STOCK.
MANAWATU DISTRICT FORTUNATE
While reports from the Taranaki and Waikato areas indicate that the incidence of stock diseases there has been severe this spring, investigations undertaken in the area surrounding Palmerston North by officers of the Department of Agriculture suggest that this district has been much more favourably placed than the other districts mentioned.
It was stated to-day that an increase in disease could be normally expected from tile very light winter and the almost continuous growth of grass, as this obviated the need to feed out hay. Some farmers, however, liad used hay supplies, even though they, had sufficient feed in the pastures, the aim being to provide a variation conducive to the health of their stock.
Milk fever is probably the most prevalent tt cubic, it was stated, but this has been far below the proportions it has reached in the other dairying districts quoted.
