PAHIATUA.

Mr D. S. Walker, who was involved in a motor accident at Mt. Stewart recently, has been discharged from the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday and is now staying with his parents at Pahiatua. As Mrs Armstrong is leaving the district, the opportunity was taken by Mrs Macdonald to present her with a fireside set. Mrs Macdonald voiced tho regret of all members at the departure of their president to a now district. Mrs Armstrong was also the recipient of a pretty shoulder spray, the work of Mrs J. Macdonald. Mr Armstrong paid a short visit to the meeting and members were able to bid him farewell and convey their best wishes. Tea was served by Mesdames Carrad and Dick. Mrs Armstrong won a competition. v A large number of members of the Druids’ Lodge and their friends gathered at tho Masonic Hall on Saturday evening on the occasion of a social and dance tendered to Private N. E. Pcarccy, of the Third Echelon. It is the custom of the lodge to make a presentation to each member of tho order enlisting with the Forces and Brother Pcarcey was tho fifth member to be so honoured. Bro .T. E. Macdonald made tho presentation of a brush and comb to Private Pcarcey.

MAKOMAKO. The Mangahao football team paid a to turn visit to Makomako' and proved victorious by 12 to 5. Local residents and visitors from Palmerston North, Woodvillo, Masterton and Pahiatua assembled recently to honour Gunner Gavin Callender. Mr F. C. Ebbctt called upon Gunner Callender to accept from the settlers a well-filled money-belt. Mr G. Atkinson also made a presentation of a smoker’s outfit on behalf of the Tennis Club. Mrs Callender was welcomed and presented with a posy of'spring flowers by Miss D. Day.
