NEWBURY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) NEWBURY, Aug. 12. There was a splendid attendance at the hall when the residents tendered a social and dance to Signalman P. Collins and Sergeant E. Anderson, residents of Newbury, who were home on - leave. Dancing interspersed with items was enjoyed, those contributing being Miss Doherty, Mr J. Pizzey, and Sergeant Brown. Mr J. lanklater, chairman of the Newbury Hall Committee, presented each guest with a fountain pen from tho settlors of the district, with the wish that they would both have good kick. - The duties of M.C. were carried out by Messrs S. Morris and M. Hansen.
Mr and Mrs Colin Cameron are in Christchurch and will attend the Grand National race meeting. Mr and Mrs Death have returned home after spending a holiday in Wellington. Miss D. McDowell is tho guest of Miss S. Hansen. Miss N. Macaulcy is visiting her sister, Mrs Thomson, of Milson’s Line. Mrs Gloyne, of Kimbolton, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs E. Collins and has been attending several parties given in honour of her grandson Signalman P. Collins. There is still much sickness in the district, mostly colds and influenza. Tho recent rain was very welcome to the district.
