PAHIATUA.
The third annual . boxing tournament of the Pahiatua District High School was held on Friday evening, excellent entries being received. The officials were: Referee, Mr J. Davies: judges, Messrs J. A. Walsh and A. P. Jensen ; timekeeper, Mr G. Oxlev. The trophies were won by: Cup for best intermediate boxer, donated hv Mr G. Oxley: Edward Watson. Cup for garneat loser, donated by Mr A. P. .lenten: Donald Bisset. f'up for best midget boxer, donated by Mr and Mrs W. 11. Lawry: Barry Fishei. Cup for best junior boxer, donated by Dr. E. B. Watson: Keith Munro. Cup for best senior boxer, donated by Mr S. K.. Siddclls: Ben JCitehun. Cup for best straight left, donated by Ml S. Walsh : Edward Watson. Clip for most scientific boxer, donated by Mr G. Evans: Edward Watson. Mr Wilson (headmaster) stated that £23 had been raised. r l he Mayor (Ml S. K. The annual meeting of the Pahiatua branch of the above Presbyterian Women’s Missionary union, held at tho residence of Mrs J. H. Smith was largely attended. Rev. A. A. Armstrong was in the chair. The secretary (Mrs Macdonald) read ihe report of the past year’s work, and the treasurer (Mrs Swanney) the balance-sheet. Mr Armstrong congratulated members on the report and balancesheet, both of which showed a very marked advance on the previous year. Very encouraging reports were also received from the two junior branches. Officers elected are .—President, Mrs W. F. Day; vicepresidents. Mesdamcs 11. Paterson, W. R Richardson and . Regret was expiessed at the coming departure of Mr and Mrs Armstrong. Mrs Day presented Mrs Armstrong with a posy of violets and an envelope containing a small gift. Mrs Paterson also spoke of the example Mrs Armstrong had set and the effect of her kindly nature on all she worked with.
