RECONSTRUCTION IN FRANCE. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 12, 11.10 a.m. BERLIN, Aug. 11. The Minister of Economics (Dr Funk), opening the Industrial Fair at Koenigsberg, declared that Germany’s food position was absolutely secure. “The British, blockade lias been so thoroughly shattered that there is no need to feel the pinch in the food situation. Britain is chokjng in the blockade net in which she hoped to catch Germany,” lie asserted. A Vichy message stays the Petain Government has begun its reconstruction programme for housing, agriculture, and industry. Reconstruction lxas begun of twenty ports, including Cherbourg, Le Havre, and Marseilles. About 300 trains a week are operating between occupied and unoccupied France as a result of the reconstruction of war-devastated communications.

MORE NAZI BOMBAST. BERLIN, Aug. 10: The German News Agency claims that nearly one million tons of British shipping have been sunk or damaged during the last three weeks. Submarines, it states, accounted for 345,000 tons, aerial attacks for 275,000 tons, and naval attacks for 100,000 tons. It adds: “The latest reports record the destruction of two British convoys totalling 75,000 tons, damage to seven other ships, and the annihilation of 51 British planes in one day. “This shows not only that the attack against England has started in the deadliest form, but also that the decisive hour is approaching.” The German News Agency says that the architect who erected the Siegfried Line is now building a submarine tunnel under the English Channel by which Britain can be invaded.
The German High Command states: “A German submarine sank an 8700ton armoured British merchantman. Our reconnaissance flights over England were carried out according to plan, especially over the East and South Coasts, and also an area north of the Shetlands. Our fighters attacked British armaments works, harbours and shipyards, bombed the aircraft works of Pobjoy Motor Aircraft, Limited, Rochester, and aircraft works at Eavcrshnm, where extensive fires and violent explosions occurred. A large number of small-calibre bombs hit the dockyards in Newcastle and the Government yards in Sheemess and Chatham. Tho landing ground of an aerodrome near Bristol was destroyed by bombs.
“Isolated enemy machines yesterday penetrated Northern France, Belgium. Holland and Western Germany, but did not attack military objectives. Several eivijians were injured and several buildings were damaged. Two of our planes are missing. Two enemv planes were shot down by anti-aircraft guns, bringing tlio total enemy planes sliot down by anti-aircraft gunners to 1500.”
