GIFT OF £100 ; COO. (British Official Wireless.) Received August 10, 2.10 p.m. RUGBY; Aug. 9. Handing a cheque for £IOO.OOO to the Ministry of Aircraft Production, Mr Garfield Western, M.P. for Macclesfield, said; “It is the pilots we cannot replace.” Mr Western, who is a Canadian, gave this money to pay for the replacement of the sixteen Hurricanes and Spitfires which were lost in destroying sixty Nazi aeroplanes over the English Channel on Thursday.
